The new Volkswagen ABT eTransporter 6.1
Electrically driven, classically dependable.
70 years after the first Transporter rolled off the production line, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has combined its expertise with the ABT e-line to release its first purely electric van in the UK.
Charging
The Combined Charged System (CCS) socket combines the ability to charge via the alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) so you can charge your vehicle at home or while you're on the move. A DC charger is the fastest option and can charge from 0-80% in just 45 minutes when connected to a 50kW power source. You can also charge at home via a domestic 3-pin socket or a wallbox. A Type 2 charging cable is included with the vehicle as standard. There are government grants available to help cover the costs of installing a wallbox in your home.
Range
In standard conditions the ABT eTransporter 6.1 can travel up to 82 miles on a single charge. That's plenty of distance to get you where you need to go.
Power and Performance
The ABT eTransporter 6.1's electric motor packs a punch, the standard 83kW electric motor can accelerate 0-62mph in just 17.4 seconds.
Capacity
The electric battery is fitted below the load area meaning the payload is not compromised. The ABT eTransporter has a 6.7m3 load volume and a payload of up to 1,001 kg so it can meet all your daily demands.
Security
New split lock functions are available on eTransporters with a bulkhead to keep your load secure. The Postman mode is designed for drivers who are in and out of the cab often. It locks the load doors when the ignition is switched on and can only be unlocked from within the van. Workshop mode allows you to keep your personal equipment and paperwork safely locked in the cab but keeps the load area unlocked so you can still get on with loading and unloading without any fuss.
Safety
Front Assist detects when the vehicle ahead is getting too close, as well as both pedestrians and cyclists, and will partially apply the brakes if needed. Driver Steering Recommendation is a new feature for the Transporter 6.1 range. The system is designed to help stabilise the vehicle as you drive, and gently intervenes if it detects oversteer around corners. As part of the ABT eTransporter 6.1’s Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP), Crosswind Assist applies the brakes when it detects a strong crosswind. Standard across the Transporter 6.1 range, it automatically kicks in when you’re travelling above 50mph.
